Please RSVP to let us know you are coming.
Make and donate chemo caps and other head huggers for cancer patients currently undergoing chemotherapy. Knitters, crocheters, and stitchers of all skill levels are invited to attend. For those looking for a little inspiration or direction, Craft Gym workshop instructors will be on hand to assist with easy step-by-step instructions. Volunteers who don’t know how to sew, knit, or crochet will be able to embellish pre-made hats. All hats will be given to the adult and children’s oncology units at UCSF’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Please note: Charitable crafting events are free of charge. Free cap patterns and refreshments will be provided, and a limited number of sewing machines will also be available. Participants are asked to RSVP and bring their own project materials as a donation:
Sewers: 1 yard of polar fleece
Knitters & Crocheters: 1 skein of soft yarn (100% Cotton, 100% Acrylic like Lion Brand’s MICRO-SPUN, or other machine washable fibers. No animal fibers please! Some people have allergies.)
Novices/Beginners:
A few skeins of embroidery floss (or ribbons, buttons, appliqués, beads, etc). Craft Gym will provide pre-made caps that you are welcome to embellish.
And, feel free to use the material you bring or swap with other Chemo Cap makers. All finished pieces will be donated in hospital oncology units and hospices in the Bay Area.
** Special Note to Knitters/Crocheters: Please remember to bring a set of needles or hooks to make sure we have enough for everyone!
