Ceramics

	Sgraffito Tilemaking Level: Beginner In this workshop you will practice the technique of sgraffito, an early form of ceramic decoration made by scratching through a slip veneer to expose the underlying, contrasting clay body. We will also discuss how to make and set tiles. Your tiles will be ready for firing at the end of this workshop and will be available for pickup in approximately 2 weeks.

	Ceramic Coiled Bowl Level: Beginner Learn and practice the technique of coiling while constructing your own handmade bowl. At the end of this workshop your piece will be ready for bisque firing. Return to the studio on any open studio night to glaze your piece. Once it is glazed, we’ll fire it again and it will be ready for pick up at the following open studio.

	Etched Barware Level: Beginner Guzzle your Guinness in style with a pair of custom-etched glasses. Learn how to design/cut stencils, apply etching cream, and etch on flat or curved surfaces. You will make and take 2 glasses.

	Glass Cutting & Stained Glass Assembly Prerequisite: Basic Soldering or equivalent experience In session one, learn to select, cut, and grind glass. In session two, assemble your pieces using the copper foil technique (Tiffany method) to create a small panel which can be assembled into a nightlight or displayed its own.

	Bead Stringing Level: Beginner New to making jewelry? In this workshop, you will learn the basics of bead stringing. You will become acquainted with beading tools, learn a variety finishing techniques, and leave with a finished necklace. All equipment and materials will be provided, but feel free to special beads or pendants that you would like to use for your necklace.

	Pearl Knotting Level: Beginner Learn the proper way to string pearls. In this workshop you will learn how to knot between pearls to add strength and flexibility to your jewelry. You may knot beads close to one another or float them by leaving space between the beads. You will leave this workshop with a finished cultured pearl necklace or 2 cultured pearl bracelets.

	Chandelier Earring Construction Level: Beginner Craft your own pair of chandelier earrings using sterling silver wire, findings and crystals. This workshop focuses on wire wrapping techniques, a foundational element in constructing beaded jewelry.

	Working with Chain Level: Beginner Learn how to work with chain and integrate it into designs for necklaces and earrings. In this workshop you will learn how to create drop earrings and get inspired on how to wrap your beads in chain.

	Bead Weaving Level: Beginner Weave beads together by hand to create a patterned canvas. In this workshop, you will get oriented with the art of seed beading with peyote stitch and variations on this stitch. We will discuss threads, waxes, and needles, and you'll even learn how to use weaving to create a bead ball clasp closure. You will make and take a 1 - 2" wide cuff.

	Personalized Silver I.D. Bracelets Level: Beginner Learn how to texture, stamp, water etch and engrave precious metal clay while making an i.d. bracelet for someone precious to you. We will create then attach the i.d. charms to chain to create a finished bracelet.

	Mold Making for PMC Level: Beginner Create beautiful replicas in PMC, using quick-set molds with found objects like buttons and pmc paste on dried organic forms (leaves, twigs, etc). Learn to attach bails to silver pieces and leave with 2 finished pendants.

	Silver Rings: Working with PMC Level: Beginner Learn exciting, diverse uses for the wonderful medium of precious metal clay (PMC). Jewelry is shaped with wet PMC clay and fired in a kiln, burning off the clay binder and leaving pure silver jewelry product. You will leave this class with helpful handouts and, in one week, return to receive your finished rings.

	Enameling Basics Level: Beginner Fuse powdered glass on copper to make beautiful pendants or tags. Working with opaque enamels, you will learn about counter enamels, layer them through multiple firings, and create your own designs. Leave with two finished pieces ready to wear.

	Enameling II: Champleve technique Level: Beginner Capture an image under glass by etching into metal and filling in the cut lines with enamel. We’ll work with transparent as well as opaque enamels to create your own dimensional pieces. Leave with two finished pieces ready for gifting (or keeping).

Metalwork

	Calder-esque Mobiles Level: Beginner In this workshop, you will learn metal manipulation and joining techniques to assemble a calder-esque mobile. All equipment and materials will be provided, but feel free to bring any unique tins that you would like to use for your mobile.

	Pewter Casting Level: Beginner Get down and dirty with a fundamental metalsmithing technique. This workshop will showcase two different methods for metal casting. Choose which method you’d like to use to create your own form and which to use with a found object. Design and craft your own reverse mold out of plaster of paris, then pour in pewter to make your own medallion or other flat sculptured piece. Work with polymer clay to make your own form, bake, then press in sand to create a replica in pewter. You’ll leave with some great tsotchkes for adornment and the knowledge of how to heat, pour, file and finish pewter.

	Tin Ornaments Level: Beginner Hang toy soldiers, shiny stars, and other ornaments on the tree this year that were handcrafted in this workshop. 	Book Mending Level: Beginner All well-loved books go through some wear and tear. Give them the TLC they need by learning basic repair/mending techniques to restore these damaged tomes. We’ll cover many commonly encountered problems including: loose bindings, fallen pages, torn pages, torn bookcloth corners and damaged dust jackets. We’ll also go over preservation principles, preventative measures, and treatment decision-making (analyzing what's wrong w/ a book and deciding just how far you want to take its treatment). Books in need of repair will be available to practice on. You are also encouraged to bring a few books from your own book collection (excluding rare or valuable ones) to analyze, discuss, and repair in this workshop.
